Saw this tonight, guess Texas doesn't care how you display your plate.

Texas does, that’s beyond illegal. Great excuse for a cop to use to pull the guy over, too.

Any states that don’t care about display? I don’t think this will fly in any state.

Super illegal, it’s a matter of time until he’s pulled. On the upside, that’s a 535d in proper BMW Alpine White, so I half approve.

I think it might be they seem to not enforce the plate laws that much. I don’t have a front plate on the M3, it didn’t come with a front plate holder, I even bought one but never got around to get it painted. Looked into a no drill option but I couldn’t find a good one, so I said F it. Stuck the plate in my window for a while. It’s in my trunk now, never had a problem and I see a bunch of other cars driving around with no front plate.

i always get nagged about them being able to clearly read my plate due to it being dirty.......that, and the dps guys complain that they cant read the texas part, because its under the edge of the bed...... that guy is asking for problems........unless its some new plate design

I don’t think it’s some new plate design, although I have seen one or two other BMWs with similar style plates but I think it’s something they have made.

It’s a damn shame North American provinces and states don’t have actual euro-style plates, like some states and territories in Australia.
Would rock a Maloo on the black Southern Cross New South Wales euro plates.

They care. This guy’s going to get pulled for it eventually.
Side note, I knew a guy in Massachusetts (passed away this year sadly) who had a Mk II Escort with a Euro-style Mass plate. He got around the law by keeping the real plate in the rear window.

Is this real? Does Texas actually offer this?
He probably won’t get in trouble as long as the car is properly registered under that plate number and the plate is legible.

I don’t think Texas offers that as a real option. Probably his real plate number as its close to what I used to have on the M3.

I saw that in the target parking lot off of Blanco Road (if I remember you’re also near San Antonio). If I see another one I’ll have to take a picture.

No, Texas does not offer this or remotely allow this. We do have the option for a license plate with a picture of a Hamburger on it, though.

Cool idea, but the execution is severely lacking.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

The oddest part is that's clearly not a US market trunk. Like there isn't room there for a US shaped license plate. So either he changed the trunk or the car was improted.

Meanwhile every Veloster that is more than a year or two old has an unreadable plate covered in soot due to this idiotic placement, and DPS won’t give a crap because boring economy car.

Don’t think they give a shit. Saw something similar on this Lamborghini in a McDs parking lot in Atlanta back in 2014.

yeah, dps is usually just fishing when they pull me over anyhow... wanting to see who i am, where i am going, what i am doing in THEIR town, and how long it is going to take me to leave........ get it ALL the time. just reminded me that it is time for me to get fresh placards...
in all honesty my plates are unreadable

The tarp in the bed probably isn’t helping either. I would think you’d have more issues with local sheriffs than DPS tho.

file photo....
the tarp usually isnt there, it was to cover an in progress, half built engine that i was keeping dry back there....... sherrifs mostly, but dps take an interest too.....
.........something, something, suspicious vehicle, dont want to see you again......

Yeah Helotes PD pulled me over for an out head lamp a block from my house a few weeks after I bought it. After looking at my license the cop goes “What’s business does someone from the West Side have being in this end of town at night?” Explained that I was going home and got “Well you had 30 days to update your address. You’re lucky I’m in a good mood tonight and going to trust you and let you go, because I could blah blah blah... Next time I see you that light better be fixed and your license too blah blah blah” Good night sir!

yeah, see you’ve gotten a taste....... just imagine the adventure of THAT about twice every month, or everytime you go through a new small town. every so often i bother to declare weapons, and that usually drags things out by a LOT. they LOVE to ask me if i have been drinking, almost insistant really. love that bit about good moods......
helotes been decent most times that i deal with them....... leon valley, from what i understand, not nearly so much. just have to remind them, when they pull you over “I LIVE HERE...”

Depends on where you’re at in TX. In El Paso, there was a cat in a tan Saab who ran similar plates, and said he was fine as long as he stayed off of highways. Local PD tends to not monitor plates heavily since our area is 50% TX plates, 25% NM plates, and 25% Chihuahua plates. But state troopers (basically TXHP) will pull you over for a plate infraction EVERY TIME. I got pulled over FOUR TIMES in a 90 minute span while driving to Midland by four different state cops because I hadn’t mounted my front plate. You’d have thought that by the time the third one called it into dispatch, dispatch would have said, “yeah, we warned him about that over by Van Horn already.”
In short, it's definitely not legal, and if local PD decides to be worse than state PD, he/she will find themselves in court in no short time.
